Quick answer: Promotional clothing is any garment carrying a company logo, event name or slogan and given away or worn to promote a brand — most commonly polo shirts, t-shirts, hoodies, softshell jackets and caps. CentralCustom embroiders and prints promotional clothing for UK businesses, clubs, schools and events with no minimum order, a free digital proof before anything goes into production, and dispatch typically 7–14 working days after you approve that proof.
A branded pen gets used for a fortnight. A branded polo shirt gets worn every week for two years, in front of customers, on site, and in every photograph your business ever posts. That is why promotional clothing consistently outperforms the rest of the merchandise category: it is the only giveaway that people actively choose to keep wearing.
What counts as promotional clothing?
The term covers any garment decorated with your branding, whether it is handed out free or issued as staff kit. In practice, UK buyers are usually asking about one of five things:
- Polo shirts — the workhorse. Smart enough for customer-facing staff, informal enough that people actually wear them.
- T-shirts — the cheapest per unit and the right choice for events, fun runs, festivals and volunteer teams.
- Hoodies and sweatshirts — the highest perceived value per pound, and the item most likely to be worn outside work.
- Jackets, fleeces and softshells — the item people keep longest, so worth the extra spend if budget allows.
- Caps, beanies and accessories — cheap, one-size, and the easiest way to add branding to an existing uniform.
If you want branded items that are not clothing — drinkware, bags, notebooks, lanyards — our promotional merchandise range covers those, and most orders sensibly combine the two.
Why choose CentralCustom
- No minimum order. Most promotional suppliers will not quote below 25, 50 or even 100 units. We will do one. A two-person business is not shut out of branded clothing here.
- A free digital proof before production. You see exactly how your logo sits on the garment, at the size and position it will actually be produced at, before you commit.
- Embroidery and print under one roof. Some garments want embroidery, some want print. We are not trying to sell you one method because it is the only one we own.
- Your setup is kept on file. Reorders do not go back to square one — same logo, same placement, same colours, next year and the year after.
- A quote back within one working day, including an honest view on whether your deadline is achievable.
Who promotional clothing is for
Businesses and trades. Branded polos and workwear make a small team look established. This is the single cheapest credibility purchase most companies make. Our custom workwear range covers the heavier-duty end.
Events and exhibitions. Staff in matching branded shirts are findable on a busy show floor; giveaway tees keep working long after the stand comes down. See branded merchandise for events and exhibitions.
Charities and fundraisers. A printed t-shirt turns a scattered group of volunteers into an obviously organised campaign, and doubles as a fundraising product in its own right.
Clubs, schools and universities. Society merch, tour kit, staff polos and leavers wear all sit here. Our teamwear range handles the sports side.
Client and staff gifting. A good hoodie is a better Christmas gift than a branded pen, and a lot cheaper than most alternatives. See corporate gifts.
Embroidery or print?
The short version: embroidery for polos, jackets, fleeces, caps and anything a customer will judge you on — it looks and feels more expensive, survives washing indefinitely, and works best on simple logos. Print for t-shirts, large chest or back designs, photographic artwork, many colours, and high volumes where unit cost matters most.
If your logo has fine detail or a gradient, print will reproduce it more faithfully. If it is a clean shape with a handful of solid colours, embroidery will look better on almost any garment heavier than a t-shirt. Our embroidery and printing pages go into the detail, and how to prepare your logo explains which file to send so your quote does not bounce back.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order for promotional clothing?
No. There is no minimum order at CentralCustom. Larger quantities bring the unit cost down — the setup work is the same whether you order five or five hundred — but small orders are genuinely welcome.
How long does promotional clothing take to produce?
Typically 7–14 working days from the point you approve your digital proof. Add a few days at the front for artwork and sizing decisions. If you have a hard deadline, say so when you ask for a quote and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
What logo file should I send?
A vector file (.ai, .eps or .pdf) is ideal. A high-resolution PNG with a transparent background usually works. A logo pulled off a website or a screenshot usually does not, and it is the single most common reason orders get delayed.
Can I order different garments with the same logo?
Yes, and most customers do — polos for customer-facing staff, hoodies for the warehouse, caps for the summer. The logo setup is done once and reused across the order.
Can I mix sizes and colours in one order?
Yes. Mixed sizes are standard. Mixed garment colours are fine too, though it is worth checking how your logo colours read against darker fabrics — we will flag it on the proof if there is a problem.
How much does promotional clothing cost?
It depends on garment, decoration method and quantity more than anything else. A printed t-shirt is the cheapest entry point; an embroidered softshell is the most expensive. Tell us the quantity and what you have in mind and we will give you a real number, not a range.
