The leavers shirt has quietly become the thing pupils actually keep. Hoodies get worn until the cuffs go; the white shirt covered in everyone's handwriting goes in a drawer and is still there thirty years later. CentralCustom prints and embroiders leavers shirts for primary schools, secondary schools, sixth forms and universities across the UK — in whatever quantity your year group genuinely needs, not the quantity a minimum order forces on you.

Quick answer

A leavers shirt is a plain shirt or t-shirt — usually white — personalised with the pupil's name, their leaving year and often the school name or crest, designed so classmates and staff can sign it on the last day. CentralCustom produces them with no minimum order, sends a free digital proof before anything goes into production, and typically dispatches 7–14 working days after you approve that proof. Email promo@centralcustom.co.uk and we will come back with a quote within one working day.

Why a shirt rather than only a hoodie

Most year groups end up with both, and they do different jobs. A leavers hoodie is the garment they wear — heavier, usually in a school colour, with the full name list on the back. The shirt is the keepsake. It is light, it is pale, and critically it is a surface that takes a marker pen cleanly.

That last point is the one groups get wrong. Polyester repels ink and a signature written on it will smear before the pupil gets home. If the shirt is going to be signed, cotton matters. We cover this properly in our guide to getting a shirt your whole class can actually sign, and it is worth five minutes before you order anything.

Who orders leavers shirts

  • Year 6. The biggest group we print for. Usually a name across the front, “Class of 2027” underneath, and the school crest small on the chest so there is room to sign.
  • Year 11. Tends to be bolder — larger back prints, nicknames, a form group list.
  • Sixth form and college. Often subject or tutor-group themed, and more likely to want embroidery on a collared shirt rather than print on a tee.
  • Universities. Course, society and hall cohorts, frequently combined with a hoodie order.
  • Teaching and support staff. Quietly popular, and usually a more understated design.

Print or embroidery

Both are available and they suit different designs.

Print is the right choice for anything with several colours, a photo-style graphic, or a long list of names. It sits flat on the fabric, which keeps the shirt easy to write on. Our custom printing service covers the options.

Embroidery is stitched rather than printed, so it lasts longer and reads as more formal — a good fit for a crest on a collared shirt, or for a staff version. It is less suited to large areas or fine detail. Our embroidery service page explains what works and what does not.

If your year group is ordering hoodies as well, our custom embroidered hoodies page covers that side, and your logo setup is kept on file so the second order does not repeat the first order's setup work.

Why order your leavers shirts from CentralCustom

  • No minimum order. A form of eighteen is as welcome as a year group of two hundred.
  • A free digital proof every time. Nothing is produced until somebody at the school has looked at it and said yes. On a garment carrying a child's name spelt correctly, this matters more than it sounds.
  • Your logo kept on file. Reorders, replacements and next year's cohort do not start from scratch.
  • A quote within one working day, so you can take a real number to a parents' meeting rather than an estimate.
  • A real workshop with real people. We are based at Clubsport Promotions in Kington, Herefordshire, and we work with schools across Herefordshire, Powys, Shropshire, Worcestershire and the Welsh border, as well as shipping nationwide.

Frequently asked questions

How much do leavers shirts cost?

It depends on three things: how many you order, which garment you choose, and how the design is applied. Print on a cotton tee is the most economical route; embroidery on a collared shirt is the most expensive. Rather than quote a headline price that will not match your order, send us the numbers and we will price it properly within one working day.

What is the minimum order for leavers shirts?

There isn't one. Order for a form, a year group or a single leaver.

How long do leavers shirts take?

Typically 7–14 working days from the moment you approve the digital proof. Approval is the clock-starting point, not the enquiry — so the sooner the proof comes back signed off, the sooner it ships. We do not offer same-day or next-day production on personalised garments, and we would rather say so plainly than miss a last day of term.

When should we order leavers shirts for summer 2027?

Earlier than most groups expect. Design decisions, collecting names and the school's approval take longer than production does. Groups that start in the autumn term are relaxed by May; groups that start in May are not.

Can we have every pupil's name printed on the shirt?

Yes — either a full name list, usually across the back, or an individual name on each shirt. Both are common. If the shirt is going to be signed, we will usually suggest keeping the front clear and putting the list on the back.

Do you print the school badge?

Yes, with the school's permission. Send us whatever artwork you have and we will tell you honestly whether it will reproduce well at the size you want.
