Personalised polo shirts, printed properly
A printed polo has a harder job than a printed t-shirt. The piqué knit is textured, the placket and collar get in the way of a centred chest print, and polos usually go into a hot wash every few days. The result looks sharp on day one and still looks right on wash forty when the print method matches the fabric, the logo and the garment's working life. When it doesn't, you get cracking, peeling or a logo that looks smaller than it should.
We pick the method with you before anything is printed. We'll also tell you when a design would look better stitched than printed.
Which print method suits your polo?
DTF (direct-to-film) — the all-rounder for logos and names
DTF transfers handle full colour, fine detail and gradients, and they sit well on both cotton and polyester polos. That makes DTF the usual choice for detailed or multi-colour logos, short runs, and individual names on the back. Read how DTF printing works.
Screen printing — best value on larger runs
Screen printing is economical when many polos carry the same simple design in a limited number of colours, such as event crew shirts or a large staff order. Setup is per colour, so it suits bold, simple artwork and bigger quantities. See screen printing.
Vinyl — names, numbers and single-colour text
Cut vinyl gives crisp single-colour lettering. It's ideal for names, initials, roles ("Steward", "Coach") and numbers. See vinyl printing.
When embroidery is the better answer
A logo on the left chest of a uniform polo that will be washed hard for a year is often better embroidered. Stitching doesn't crack, and it reads as premium. Printing wins on large back designs, photographic detail, very fine text and lightweight performance fabrics that can pucker under dense stitching. Many customers combine the two: embroidered logo on the chest, printed names or a big design on the back. Compare the options on our custom embroidery page or in our garment-by-garment guide to embroidery vs print.
What you can personalise
- Left or right chest — the standard logo position on a polo
- Full back — large logos, event artwork, sponsor panels or slogans
- Across the shoulders — company name or website
- Sleeves — a second logo, a flag or a small sponsor mark
- Individual names, initials or job titles — each polo can be different within one order

Polo shirt printing FAQs
Where can I get polo shirts printed?
You can order from CentralCustom online from anywhere in the UK. Send us your logo or design, choose your polos and we'll return a quote within one working day. Then you approve a free digital proof before anything is printed. There's no need to visit a local shop.
How much do custom polos cost?
Four things set the price: the polo itself (budget cotton through to premium sports brands), the quantity, the decoration method, and the number of print or logo positions. A single-position print on a mid-range polo is the most economical option. Each extra position, name or colour adds to it. Our branded workwear pricing guide explains the cost drivers, and we'll confirm exact figures on your quote.
Is it better to print or embroider a polo shirt?
Embroidery usually wins for a chest logo on a hard-working uniform polo. Print usually wins for large back designs, fine detail, full-colour artwork, individual names and lightweight performance fabrics. Many orders use both.
Will the print survive washing?
A well-matched print on the right fabric is made for repeated washing. Follow the care advice — wash inside out, avoid very high temperatures and don't iron directly on the print. Our guide to washing printed and embroidered workwear has the detail.
