Quick answer: School trip hoodies are personalised hoodies printed or embroidered with your school name, the destination and the year, worn by a year group on a ski trip, residential or tour. CentralCustom decorates them across the UK for schools, colleges, universities and youth groups. There is no minimum order, you get a free digital proof before anything is decorated, and orders are typically dispatched 7-14 working days after you approve that proof.
A trip hoodie does two jobs at once. On the trip it makes thirty-odd teenagers findable in an airport, a lift queue or a motorway services car park. Afterwards it is the one piece of kit they actually keep, because it is dated and it names a place they went with people they liked. Tell us roughly how many you need and when you need them, and we will come back with a quote and a realistic delivery date.
Ski trip hoodies
Ski trips are the single biggest reason UK schools order trip hoodies, and they are the trip where visibility stops being a nice-to-have. Airports, coach transfers, ski hire shops and lift queues are all places where a group in one identifiable colour is easier to count and easier to keep together. Most school ski trips run in February half-term or at Easter, which means the sensible time to start is the autumn term before.
What usually goes on a ski trip hoodie: the school name and crest on the front, the resort and year across the back, and the pupils' names or nicknames listed underneath. Contrast hoods and drawcords are popular for ski trips specifically because they photograph well against snow, where a plain dark hoodie disappears.
Which trips these work for
- Ski and snowboard trips — the classic. Ordered in the autumn for a February or Easter departure.
- Residentials and outdoor centres — Year 6 and Year 7 residentials, activity weeks and adventure centres.
- Subject trips — geography fieldwork, history battlefields tours, science and space centre visits, language exchanges.
- Sports tours and music tours — where the group is representing the school in public and wants to look like a squad.
- Duke of Edinburgh groups and expeditions — usually a lighter garment, often with the group name rather than individual names.
- University and college trips — course trips, field courses and society weekends away, which tend to organise late and need honest lead times.
Why choose CentralCustom
Print and embroidery under one roof. We decorate garments ourselves rather than passing the order down a chain, which means we can tell you honestly which method suits your artwork and your budget, and we keep control of your timings. See our garment printing and custom embroidery services.
No minimum order. A twelve-pupil field course and a hundred-and-forty-pupil ski trip need different decoration methods to make financial sense. We match the method to the quantity rather than turning small groups away.
A free digital proof, every time. Nothing is decorated until somebody at the school has seen exactly what will be produced, at the size it will appear. That matters most on the names list, which is where trip hoodie orders go wrong.
Your setup is kept on file. Once your school crest is digitised or set up for print, we keep it. Next year's trip, or the leavers order that follows it, does not start from scratch — which is why plenty of schools use us for leavers hoodies and leavers shirts as well.
Print or embroidery on a trip hoodie?
Both work, and plenty of orders use both. Print handles bold full-colour artwork, large back designs, resort names and long lists of pupil names, and it is usually better value at higher quantities. Embroidery gives a textured, premium finish that suits a school crest on the chest and survives heavy wear well — worth considering if you want the hoodie to still look right at the end of the week rather than at the start of it. A common combination is an embroidered crest on the front and a printed destination and names list on the back.
You can see the base garments in our hoodies and sweatshirts range, and if you are unsure what size to order for a mixed year group, our class sizing guide covers how to collect sizes without guessing.
How ordering works
- Tell us the brief. Quantity, rough sizes, your departure date, and what you want on the hoodie.
- We quote. Normally back with you within one working day, including which decoration method we would recommend and why.
- We produce a free digital proof. You see exactly what will be decorated before anything happens.
- You approve. Check the names list and the spelling of the destination carefully. Approval is where changes stop being free.
- We produce and dispatch. Typically 7-14 working days from proof approval.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should we order school trip hoodies?
Six to eight weeks before departure is comfortable, and ten to twelve is better if you still need to collect sizes and payments. For a February ski trip that means starting in the autumn term and aiming to approve your proof before the December break, so a delay does not eat into the run-up to departure.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No. There is no minimum order. Larger quantities bring the unit price down and open up decoration methods that are not economic on very small runs, but we will quote for a group of ten as readily as for a year group of two hundred.
Can we put every pupil's name on the back?
Yes. Send the list as a spreadsheet with the exact spelling you want and the size next to each name. A late or unchecked names list is the single most common reason a trip hoodie order runs late, so it is worth locking down early.
Can you match our school colours?
We will get as close as the process allows and tell you honestly where an exact match is not achievable. Thread and ink colours are matched to your references, and the garment colour underneath affects the result, which is why we always send a visual first.
Can pupils choose different hoodie colours?
They can, but for a ski trip we would gently argue against it. The practical point of a trip hoodie is that a member of staff can count the group at a glance in a crowded airport. Mixed colours undermine that. If you want individuality, put it in the names and nicknames on the back instead.
Do you supply schools outside your local area?
Yes. We are based at Clubsport Promotions in Kington, Herefordshire, and work with schools across Herefordshire, Powys, Shropshire, Worcestershire and the Welsh border, but we decorate and dispatch for schools throughout the UK.
