Under £5 per pupil
This is the band most whole-year-group orders land in, particularly in large secondaries where you might be buying for 250 pupils.
1. Embroidered patches or pin badges. Small, cheap and oddly durable — they end up on bags rather than in drawers.
2. Keyrings with the year group and school name. The default for a reason. They survive the bottom of a school bag.
3. Pencils and pens with the school crest. Genuinely useful for Year 6 pupils heading to secondary in September, less so for Year 11.
4. Wristbands. Worn constantly for about a fortnight, then kept. Cheap enough to over-order.
5. Personalised bookmarks. Underrated for Year 6, and one of very few ideas that fits a sub-£2 budget without feeling like tat.

What to avoid
Anything that only works on leaving day. Balloons, printed certificates and single-use props are forgotten by the following week. If the point is a keepsake, it has to survive the walk home.

Anything with a date you might get wrong. “Class of 2027” on 240 hoodies is very hard to unprint. It appears on the digital proof for a reason — check it.
Food and sweets as the main gift. Allergy policies make this harder than it looks, and it is gone by teatime.
Ordering different items for different pupils. It sounds inclusive and it creates a logistics problem and a fairness argument. One item, one design.
How many should you order?
Order for the full year group plus a small margin, not for the number of pupils who have paid. There is always a late payer, a pupil who joins in the summer term, and a member of staff who asks for one afterwards.
