Quick answer: Hospitality uniforms are the branded garments worn by hotel, restaurant, bar, café and catering staff — usually embroidered polo or Oxford shirts front of house, aprons and tabards through service, and chef jackets and trousers in the kitchen. CentralCustom decorates hospitality uniforms for venues across the UK with no minimum order on embroidery, a free digital proof before anything is made, and a quote back within one working day.
A hospitality uniform has to do two jobs at once. It has to make your team instantly recognisable to a guest standing in a busy room, and it has to survive a twelve-hour shift and a hot wash, several times a week, for a year or more. Get either half wrong and you buy the whole lot again.
We supply and decorate uniforms for hotels, restaurants, gastropubs, bars, cafés and coffee shops, event caterers and contract catering teams — from a two-person coffee shop to a hotel kitting out every department at once.
Why hospitality venues order their uniforms with us
- No minimum order on embroidery. Kit out one new starter or forty. You are not forced into a case of two dozen polos you do not need.
- Free digital proof before production. You see exactly how the logo will sit on the garment, at the right size and in the right thread colours, before a single stitch is sewn.
- Your logo stays on file. Once it is digitised, reorders carry no repeat setup — which matters in a sector where turnover is high and a new starter needs kitting out for their first shift.
- One supplier for front and back of house. Reception shirts, service aprons and chef whites from the same place, in matching brand colours, on one invoice.
- A quote within one working day. Tell us the venue, the roles and rough numbers, and we come back with garments and pricing.
Hospitality uniforms by venue type
Hotels
Hotels are the hardest brief, because one building contains five or six different working environments. Reception needs to look formal, housekeeping needs to be hard-wearing and launder daily, the bar sits somewhere between the two, and the kitchen has its own requirements entirely. Our department-by-department guide to hotel uniforms sets out how the roles differ and what to order for each.
Restaurants and gastropubs
Front of house usually runs on an embroidered work polo shirt or an Oxford shirt with a branded apron over the top. It photographs well, it reads as deliberate rather than accidental, and the apron takes most of the punishment so the shirt underneath lasts longer.
Bars and pubs
Bar teams tend to want something darker and more relaxed — a black polo or tee with a bib apron, or a canvas or denim apron worn over a plain dark base layer. That last approach is the least expensive way to look like a properly run venue when the budget is tight.
Cafés and coffee shops
Aprons do nearly all the work here. A well-branded apron over a plain tee is the signature independent-café look, and it is the cheapest uniform in hospitality to set up. See custom embroidered aprons.
Kitchens, catering and events
Chef jackets, chef trousers, skull caps and bib aprons, embroidered on the breast pocket with the venue name and, if you want it, the chef's name. Browse custom chef jackets and whites, or read our guide to chef whites, fabric and how many sets a kitchen actually needs.
Garments we decorate for hospitality
Polo shirts, t-shirts, Oxford and poplin shirts, blouses, bib and waist aprons, tabards, chef jackets and trousers, softshells and fleeces for terraces and outdoor service, plus caps and beanies. If you are ordering several garments per person, our workwear bundles price the set rather than the pieces. The full range sits in custom workwear and branded uniforms.
Embroidery or print?
For customer-facing hospitality roles, embroidery is almost always the right call. It survives repeated hot washes and it reads as a uniform rather than as merchandise. Printing earns its place on large apron designs, back prints and high-volume event tees where cost per unit decides it. Plenty of venues use both — embroidered polos front of house, printed aprons and event shirts alongside.
How ordering works
- Tell us the venue type, the roles you need to cover and rough numbers.
- We come back with garment recommendations and a quote, usually within one working day.
- Send your logo. We produce a free digital proof showing size, position and thread colours.
- You approve the proof. Orders are typically dispatched 7–14 working days after approval.
- Your setup stays on file, so reorders for new starters are quick and carry no repeat setup charge.
Hospitality uniform FAQs
Is there a minimum order for hospitality uniforms?
There is no minimum order on embroidery — a single garment is fine. Screen printing becomes cost-effective from around a dozen pieces per design, because the setup cost is shared across the run.
How many uniforms should I order per person?
Two to three sets per person is the usual answer in hospitality. One set fails the first time something is in the wash, and in a venue trading six or seven days a week that happens immediately. Kitchen and housekeeping should sit at the top of that range.
Can you match my brand colours?
Garment colours are limited to what the manufacturer produces, but embroidery thread and print colours can be matched closely to your palette, and you will see exactly how it looks on the proof before anything is made. Our guide to matching uniform colours to your brand goes into more detail.
Can you add staff names as well as the venue logo?
Yes. Names are most common on chef jackets and on reception and management garments. Each name is a separate personalisation, so it is priced per garment rather than per order.
How long does a hospitality uniform order take?
Typically 7–14 working days from proof approval. If you are working to a fixed opening date, tell us at quote stage and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
Can you kit out a hotel with several departments at once?
Yes, and it is usually both cheaper and more consistent than ordering department by department across the year — one proof round, one delivery, one set of decisions about colour.
